The first step in becoming a Merchant Navy Cadet is to fill out the online application form. Here you will be asked to select one of three Merchant Navy careers that you would like to pursue – Deck Officer, Marine Engineering or Electro-technical Officer.

FOR ENTRY INTO TRAINING
via the Higher National Certificate (HNC) / Diploma (HND) route you require:
A minimum of four GCSEs / Standard Grades / National 5s
These must include Maths / English AND at least one science based subject
We also accept applicants who have completed or currently undertaking a Marine Pre-Cadetship
FOR ENTRY INTO TRAINING
via the Higher National Certificate (HNC) / Diploma (HND) route you require:

for the Foundation Degree and Scottish Professional Diploma are:
48 UCAS points which must include passes in maths and/or physics at Higher or A Level

Applications are evaluated by our team of Training Officers and successful applicants will be invited for an interview at one our national locations.
Successful candidates are then offered a training berth with one of our sponsoring companies and placed at one of our partnering nautical colleges throughout the UK.
