At the Humber Maritime College you will be interested to two career routes: engineering and ship operations.
Marine Engineer Officers are responsible for the safety, performance, operation and maintenance of the ship, it’s machinery and equipment including technical, operational, emergency and damage control systems whilst ensuring international regulations and conventions are fully complied with. Marine Engineer Officers work towards the position of Chief Engineer during their career.
Deck Officers are responsible for navigation, ship management, international regulations, ship stability, dangerous cargo, inter-governmental agreements/conventions, ship security, safe working and above all, emergency preparedness and reaction. Deck Officers work towards the position of Captain during their career.

- Be aged over 18 years old on 1st September 2022
- Hold GCSE 9-4 or A-C in maths, English, science and one other
- Have a practical, can-do attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team
- Motivated to join the international maritime sector and be ready to follow a rigorous training programme to become a professional maritime officer
As a sponsored trainee you’ll have all your tuition fees paid and you’ll receive a monthly allowance of £750 during the training programme. When you travel to go aboard all of your usual living & travel expenses will be paid for, and international visas (if required) and items like uniforms are also provided to you free of charge.
