entry requirements

Clyde Marine Training (CMT) recruits and manages cadets for Deck, Engineering and Electro‑Technical careers. Your chosen route determines the qualifications you need at entry and the level you study at college.

first things first

You must meet the college entry criteria for your chosen academic route

All cadets must pass the ENG1 seafarer medical issued by an MCA‑approved doctor, including eyesight and colour vision checks as required for the role

medical and eyesight requirements

All cadets must hold a valid ENG1 medical throughout training.

The ENG1 is issued by MCA‑approved doctors, normally valid for up to two years. It confirms you are fit for sea service and includes hearing, vision and colour vision checks

Eyesight and colour vision standards depend on your role and are assessed as part of the ENG1. Deck roles typically require stricter colour vision and distance vision than some engineering roles
