STCW Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting Route 1

Duration: 1/2 Day course

Location: Glasgow

Entry Requirements: Proof of having completed an initial Advanced Fire Fighting Certificate (or equivalent) required, all candidates must also complete (or have completed) the updating training for Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention.

This course covers Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code (paragraph 5) which states that ‘Seafarers qualified in accordance with paragraph 4 in advanced fire fighting shall be required, every five years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence, to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of Table A VI/3.’

Route 1 (Detailed below):
This route can be taken by seafarers who hold an Advanced Fire Fighting Certificate who have maintained the required standard of competence by onboard training and experience, for all competencies listed in the self declaration form.

The course will cover:

  • Controlling fire operations onboard ship
  • Organisation and training of fire parties
  • Inspection and servicing of fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment
