Clyde Marine Training have appointed Thomas Campbell as its new General Manager.
Thomas brings vast experience in the development and management of seafarers having held key management positions within Stena’s ship management and marine services company Northern Marine.
Having started his career at sea, Thomas has spent close to a decade managing Northern Marine’s international pool of cadets and latterly leading seafarer recruitment and development for the Asian Continent while based in Manila.
Thomas arrives to the business with significant knowledge of current industry challenges as well as opportunities for growth. He sits on the MNTB Technical Committee and the U.K CoS Employment Committee and has previously chaired the Maritime SuperSkills programme for degree apprenticeships.
Thomas said: “It is an exciting time to be joining Clyde Marine Training as the Company builds upon our standing as the trusted industry leader in developing UK Merchant Navy Cadets.
“As a former client of Clyde Marine Training, I am fully aware of the Company’s pedigree and high standards in nurturing the largest pool of Cadets in the UK today.
“Since joining I have been impressed but not surprised by the abundance of knowledge and experience within our skilled workforce and their ambition to not just manage during the COVID19 pandemic, but to deliver ever improving services to both clients and cadets.
“Working in tandem with our clients, our focus will always be on preparing well-rounded, quality Officers who will have the opportunity to forge successful careers at sea or onshore within the hugely diverse maritime industry.”
Thomas will report to John Abate, former Managing Director of Maersk Training UK, who has been appointed as Northern Marine’s Global Head of Training overseeing the Group’s Training portfolio which includes subsidiaries Clyde Marine Training and Clyde Training Solutions (marine, offshore and renewables safety training).
