Clyde Marine Training are proud to support Maritime UK’s Women in Maritime campaign by hosting two Public Speaking Workshops in the Company’s Clydebank office this autumn.
Sponsored by the Scottish Maritime Cluster (SMC), the two events – held on 17th October and 21st November – will be conducted by renowned public speaking trainer Shola Kaye.
Maritime UK’s Women in Maritime campaign aims to promote employment cultures that actively support and celebrate gender diversity at all levels of an organisation.
It looks to identify practical steps to increase the number of women in maritime, and crucially within senior roles across its shipping, ports, marine and business service industries.
Katy Womersley, General Manager, CMT, said: “I have been overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm provided by both the Scottish Maritime Cluster and Maritime UK for these events to take place, and I hope that this is just the beginning of more Women in Maritime events.
“As an ex-Officer myself, I know how daunting it can be to enter a predominantly male environment. Events like these can only help break down barriers, and with 40+ shipping organisations making up the SMC, we are in a perfect location and position to lend our support.”
The events come on the back of CMT’s support of the ‘Centenary of Women in Marine Engineering’, which is being marked by a series of events around Scotland, and highlights the progress made since Scottish-born Victoria Drummond became the first woman marine engineer in Britain and first woman member of Institute of Marine Engineers.
