YOUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE
You can apply for one of our positions at the Scottish Maritime College today by completing our online application form.
The form is divided into 4 short sections covering:
- Desired position and start date
- Personal and contact details
- Academic qualifications
- Previous experience
The form will take approx. 10 minutes to complete – and can be completed on desktop or mobile devices – and the only information you may be required to locate prior to completing the form is your academic qualifications:
Please note the minimum qualifications required for courses currently offered:
- HNC Deck Officer route – 4 GCSEs/Standard Grades/ Nat 5s graded A-C including Maths, English & Science Based Subject
If, however, you have completed or are currently undertaking a Marine Pre-Cadetship, this will also be accepted as substitute for the above qualifications.
Once you have submitted your application form, it will be reviewed by our training team, and provided you meet the initial criteria, you will be invited for interview, which will take place either face-to-face or via video conference call depending on location.
At interview stage we expect candidates to outline just why they believe they are suited to a career at sea.
You will also be required to provide proof of your eligibility:
- All applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid EU passport and have been permanently resident within the UK for the last 36 months.
- You will also be in possession of – or about to receive – a UK National Insurance number.

The role of a seafarer is rewarding but also challenging, and the training required in order to get to that stage is no different.
We require candidates who have the tenacity for life onboard vessels ships and can face the challenges of three years of academic work combined with sea phases.
We advise all candidates to read over the various pages included within the ‘Merchant Navy Careers’ section to make sure you are clear about the career paths open to you.
Good luck!
