Clyde Marine Training (CMT) recruits and manages cadets for Deck, Engineering and Electro-Technical careers. Use this checklist to confirm you are ready to apply.

1 eligibility at a glance

  • Passport and residency: You must hold, a valid UK or EEA passport and have been permanently resident in the UK for the last 12 months. Proof of UK residency is required and checked at interview stage.

  • Medical: You must pass an ENG1 seafarer medical with an MCA-approved doctor. This includes eyesight and colour vision assessments appropriate to your route.

You will also need a UK National  Insurance number (or be in the process of receiving one). Proof is required and checked at interview stage.

  • Medical: You must pass an ENG1 seafarer medical with an MCA-approved doctor. This includes eyesight and colour vision assessments appropriate to your route.

2 academic requirements

  • HNC / HND or CHE/ DHE routes: Minimum 4 GCSEs / National 5s / Standard Grades including Maths, English and one science-based subject

  • Foundation Degree (FD) / Scottish Graduate Certificate (SGC): 48 UCAS points from Highers or A-levels including Maths and/or Physics, plus the HNC/HND baseline above

  • Honours Degree: 104 UCAS points from Highers, A-levels and/or a prior degree. Engineering requires a numerate subject

  • Alternative pathway: A Marine Pre-Cadetship can be accepted as a substitute for the baseline school qualifications

  • The online form takes around 10 minutes, covers your route choice, personal details and qualifications, and can be completed on mobile or desktop
