Colin’s career began with BP Shipping Ltd where he started as a Trainee before rising through the ranks to become 2nd Officer. In 2004 and after working as Chief Officer with Sea Containers Scotland Ltd for around 5 years, Colin joined Clyde Marine Training as Manager. Now Director of the company as well as being present on a number of Maritime bodies including the MNTB Technical Committee the Marine Personnel Committee, and the City of Glasgow College Board of Management (formerly known as Glasgow College of Nautical Studies), Colin is a significant influence on the maritime industry. He is also a past President of the Scottish Shipping Benevolent Association and works closely with government bodies to help ensure the future of the shipping industry in the UK.
Kathy joined CMT in 2011 and has worked in a variety of business sectors, as well as having sea-time dating back to 1971 when she sailed on bulk carriers. She has a wealth of experience within the Youth Training sector where she was employed for over 10 years, advancing from Skills Instructor level to management. Within this role she had responsibility for over 50 training centres as well as personnel throughout Scotland. With sound financial, sales and management experience she is perfect for the role of General Manager and is keen to develop staff within Clyde Marine Training to fulfil their own potential and enhance their own job satisfaction.
Training Manager Katy Womersley began her career in the maritime industry as a Trainee Deck Officer with SSTG, studying at Fleetwood Nautical Campus and gaining sea time with Boston Putfords. Once qualified with her First Certificate of Competency, Katy spent her seagoing career with Gardline Surveys Ltd as a 2nd Officer before coming to Clyde Marine Training in 2005 as Training Facilitator. She then moved into the position of Training Supervisor before becoming Training Manager in 2011 and now has overall responsibility for the recruitment and progress of our Trainees as well as overseeing the Training Officer team.
Having joined CMT in 2007, Lesley is currently Senior Training Officer with responsibility for the Engineer Trainees at City of Glasgow College, as well as Trainees at the National Maritime College of Ireland. She also deals with schools, recruitment and marketing. Lesley completed her MA (Hons) at The University of Edinburgh before moving into retail management and achieved a Diploma in the Business of Shipping through Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (now City of Glasgow College), with a Highly Commended Pass.
Unlike the majority of CMT staff who are based in Scotland, Wayne is based in our Southampton Office and has responsibility for all Trainees at Warsash Maritime Academy. Wayne came to The Clyde Group in 2006 after completing 14 years at sea with Cunard, P&O Ferries and Red Funnel respectively as well as working within the sector within maritime operations for a further 5 years. Wayne also attends school and career events in the south of England in order to promote careers in the Merchant Navy.
Christopher is a CMT success story, having completed his Engineer Officer training though the company before deciding to continue his shore-based career with us too! He achieved a HND in Marine Engineering and his OOW Certificate of Competency through GCNS and worked on a variety of vessels before coming to CMT in 2008. Christopher is the company Training Record Book Supervisor and is also responsible for all Trainees at Shetland School of Nautical Studies.
Kirsty joined the company in September 2010 having previously held a management position within a major hospitality company. Kirsty is the Training Officer for all Deck and Engineering Trainees at Fleetwood Nautical Campus and Liverpool John Moores University and enjoys this diverse role.
Christopher joined CMT early in 2012 after coming from a training and development role. He currently is Training Officer for the Deck Trainees at City of Glasgow College and enjoys the variety that this role brings.
Ruth joined as a Training Officer on Christmas Eve 2012. Since completing her cadetship with Maersk in 2010, gaining her OOW COC qualification in addition to her Foundation Degree in Marine Operations, Ruth worked at Anglo Eastern as Fleet Operations Officer, covering vessel position monitoring, passage and cargo plans, certificate applications and D&A testing amongst other things, and its hoped that her hands on experience will prove invaluable to cadets in Ruth’s charge.
Natalie is based in our Southampton office and previously worked for Clyde Marine Recruitment, having joined The Clyde Group in 2009. Prior to this Natalie was at sea for 8 years, most recently as Crew Manager for the UK's largest cruise company. She is responsible for all Trainees at South Tyneside College and enjoys the main challenges this brings!
Hugh joined Clyde Marine Training in November 2012. Having completed 30 years’ service with Strathclyde Police, Hugh attained the rank of Inspector. He delivered a number of Force training programmes and was actively involved in the development of Probationary Constables throughout his career. Hugh is looking forward to working with our Trainees in his new role.
Allison joined the CMT in October 2012. She previously had experience working for a boutique maritime recruitment company in Singapore, before which she was at college studying acting and performance. Allison’s role includes dealing with Trainee enquiries, Trainee administration and documentation, as well as a wide variety of other tasks.
Christine has worked for the company since 1988, having seen the company grow from 6 members of staff to the current 22 employees. Before joining CMT Christine worked in the financial sector, completing her business qualifications and more recently completing studies in management. Christine is the Administration Manager within CMT and has responsibility for all administrative areas, documentation and the Administration team.
Cheryl has worked within CMT since 2000, having worked through the ranks to the role of Senior Administration Officer. Cheryl has a vast array of experience in a variety of positions within the company and therefore and as such is valuable asset to the team. Cheryl’s role as Senior Administration Officer involves all aspects of Trainee payroll and ensuring that all Trainees have the necessary documentation before going to sea.
Dawn works in the administration team as Senior Administration Officer and has been with CMT since 1995. Prior to this, Dawn completed a NC in Administration and went on to work within Harrisons (Clyde) for 8 years. Dawn deals with the vast array of documentation for Trainees prior to going to sea as well as the medical requirements of Trainees.
Jean has worked within CMT since 2007 and deals with all Trainees and their documentation requirements prior to commencing their course. Before coming to the company Jean worked in an administrative role and prior to this she had her own bar in Spain.
Laura also joined CMT in 2007 after completing her Highers at school. Laura is one of our Administration Officers and is responsible for arranging documentation for Trainees for the seagoing part of their training, including travel and arrangements for joining ships all over the world.
Danielle is an Administration Officer within CMT and deals with many areas including Trainee travel, seatime requirements and medical administration. Having worked for the company since May 2008, Danielle previously gained a HND in Public Relations and Advertising and also worked within a marketing company on a variety of campaigns.
Matt brings a wealth of experience to the team having spent 38 years within the maritime industry. Having worked his way through a variety of roles from AB upwards, Matt joined CMT in 2005 as a Training Officer and has since worked his way up to become Divisional Manager. Matt is responsible for areas of development within the company, including maritime and HSE training courses, Clyde Safety, Clyde Uniforms and all associated members of staff.
Ashleigh joined CMT in 2007 in a training and development role and is now the company’s Senior Training Instructor. Having previously gained qualifications in retail management including a HND, Ashleigh achieved a Diploma in the Business of Shipping with a Highly Commended Pass and was a Training Officer with CMT for several years. Ashleigh currently delivers a wide variety of training courses and works within the training and development team.
Carly joined Clyde Marine Training in 2012 as a Junior Administration Officer, dealing with pre-college administration and enquiries. She previously worked for The Clyde Group through Topstaff Employment and at external events. Prior to working for the Group Carly studied both Beauty Therapy and Travel & Tourism to HNC level. Carly has really enjoyed her time at CMT so far, having taken part in events promoting the Merchant Navy and accompanying Trainees to obtain their US Visas in London.
William spent 10 years at sea with the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer and more recently gained 10 years experience within the fire protection industry. William joined the company in 2011 and is our Senior Safety Engineer, as well as Training Instructor for a wide variety of short courses. William enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience to clients and Trainees alike.
Andrew was an Engineer Trainee with CMT and Zodiac Maritime Agencies Ltd before coming to work within the company in 2007. Andrew has a varied role within CMT, dealing with safety wear, Clyde Uniforms, software support and administrative support, as well as carrying out STCW training courses.
Jennifer started working with CMT in December 2012, having previously worked within a Glasgow-based travel company. Prior to this she worked onboard various cruise ships within the retail sector before deciding to come ashore. Jennifer deals with the many enquiries for short courses, safety services and uniforms as well as administrative duties.
