Award winning Clyde Marine Training Ltd (CMT), part of the Clyde Group based in Glasgow, Scotland, is delighted to announce that they have become a Corporate Marine Partner to the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST). In 2009 CMT won the Glasgow Business Award for Best Performing Business and in 2010 were included in the Smarta 100 list of top performing companies in the UK, both accolades to their commitment to offering a unique service level and professional business.

“As a group, we offer the highest level of services to both the marine and corporate sectors,” explains Rod Mackenzie, Manager of Clyde Marine Training. “Founded in 1986, Clyde Marine Training has grown to be the largest maritime training provider in the UK recruiting approximately 50% of the annual Trainee Officer intake for the British Merchant Navy today. Our continuous aim is to be the foremost provider of quality services to the marine sector, and we are proud of our ISO 9001 – 2008 Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Accreditation, and now of our association with IMarEST through its Marine Partner scheme.

The synergy is obvious; through the scheme we will benefit from both a continuing professional development programme for our staff and for all our final year Trainee Officers.
It is hoped our initial investment will provide a launch-pad for this large pool of talented young future Officers. In an ever increasingly competitive world, the ability to manage the job is vital so we could not think of a better professional institution to enter a partnership agreement with. More importantly our Trainee Officers who will have already spent a number of years at college and sea will hopefully fully embrace this initiative as they embark on their final important steps towards full professional recognition.

Rod adds “Then too, there are obvious branding opportunities that extend our marketing reach and ensure our name and service is known throughout the IMarEST membership. We are well known as a respected Training provider however in recent years we have expanded considerably and now deliver not only STCW courses but have branched out to HSE Training, we have an active on-line shop that provides highly competitive prices for all types Uniform, Industrial Work Wear and PPE supply. We are looking forward to an extremely rewarding association with the Institute.”

In welcoming CMT to the Marine Partner scheme, Dr Marcus Jones, Chief Executive of IMarEST says: “CMT is an ideal Marine Partner; I can see us learning from each other as a result of this closer relationship. Their reach is wide; they currently have contracts with over 50 shipping companies to interview and select well-motivated young people on their behalf and oversee their progress during training. Indeed, they have some 900 trainees within the system undergoing training in colleges and universities – all of these youngsters can benefit by knowing just what IMarEST can offer them now and throughout their careers.”

Marine Partners is the corporate partnership programme of the IMarEST – the leading professional body for the global marine community. Customised corporate packages are created for each of the Partners who include companies, universities, research institutes and training colleges.
